Create something new with iPad.

create with iPad

Whether you’re a talented artist or someone who just loves to create, there are a ton of cool features on your iPad, which means that designing something unique is just a tap away. We have compiled a list of some of our favourite tools and amazing apps that are just scraping the surface of a whole lot of iPad awesomeness.

iPad for the creative

The iPad is light and portable, so it’s always with you when you want to capture those lightbulb moments. By using the built-in camera on your iPad, you’re always one tap away from keeping a digital record of all of your ideas - take a photo of the inspiration or of the notes you have jotted down. You can also use the sketch tool in your Photos app to make pertinent notes on the pictures that you have taken.

As an artist, your iPad is no doubt full to the brim with all sorts of graphics and videos. So much so, that you may find yourself running out of valuable storage space. To make sure that you always have enough space for your imaginative pieces, go to General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage in Settings and wait until you see which of your apps are using the most space on your iPad and in iCloud. If you use Apple Music, you can select to have all of your favourite tunes uploaded to iCloud rather than stored locally on your device. Also, make sure you have all of your photos and videos backed up on your Mac or somewhere else so that you can delete some of those on your iPad too. It is also always helpful to have a look at which apps are using the most space and delete the ones that you don’t really use.

Did you know that you can design your own original font on your iPad? iFontMakers is an app that lets you hand make fonts to look exactly as you want them. In just a few minutes you can create a unique font and install it on different devices or use as a webfont (royalty free) if you have your own website.

Do you love to create beautiful drawings on your iPad? Well did you know that you can draw directly onto your Mac, but using your iPad? With the Astropad app you can use your iPad to draw directly onto Photoshop on your Mac. So you get the benefits of your iPad, with all the benefits of Photoshop on your Mac.

Coding with iPad

Learning how to code is an invaluable skill and allows you to create in a whole new way. Did you know that you can learn to code, right from your iPad? Swift Playgrounds is an app developed by Apple for iPad that introduces coding concepts in an easy-to-use, game-like format. The app consists of a series of lessons that start you on the basics of code and move you towards more complex coding. Swift is the actual programming language or ‘code’ that Apple has created for building and creating apps. The code is open source which means anyone can access it.

The app takes full advantage of all the great features on your iPad such as MultiTouch which allows you to create, edit and change code by tapping and dragging your code as you go and QuickType which intelligently displays codes it thinks you may want to use as you go.

With iOS 10, Swift Playgrounds is available as a free download on the app store and is compatible with iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 2 or later. You can also download the Swift Programming Book for free to learn more about Swift. And that’s all you need to get coding!
