So you’ve taken the picture. You used the rule of thirds, made sure you found the best angles , and your subject of the photo, pure perfection. Can this picture possibly get any better? Well, yes. Yes it can. There are literally thousands of photography apps available in the App Store that will turn a great photo into an outstanding one. We’ve selected just a few of our best that we think will help give every picture of yours an X factor.
Look out for future posts where we’ll feature more of our best photo apps that cover lighting, filters, fun features and more.
Let’s begin with everyone’s go-to app, Snapseed (Free). Snapseed was voted 2014’s Apple App of the Year and when you give it a try, you’ll know why. This app lets your phone become a professional editing machine that was only previously possible on a desktop. You can retouch, adjust perspective, re-edit and so much more, all with the simple touch of your finger.
Most of you have used or at least heard of VSCO Cam (Free). It’s possibly one of the most popular apps when it comes to tweaking exposure and adding film grain to give your photos a classic feel. But why not give Faded (R11.99) a go? This app offers an amazing level of control and a smooth interface filled with cool options. Faded also gives you the option to create actions – steps of image adjustments that you can apply via a single action to a group of photographs, to achieve the same look on multiple pictures.
Hipstamatic (R24.99) is a firm favourite amongst instagrammers and iPhoneographers. This customisable app generates quirky results by emulating toy and vintage cameras. It gives you the option to swap lenses and change flash settings to create heavily-filtered pictures just like that of a Polaroid.
If you’ve ever had the problem where you take a photo, and realise that, what you wanted to capture, gets cut off when applying it to Instagram’s frame, InstaSize (Free) is the app you need to rectify this problem. It scales your photos down and a is able to do a whole lot more, like localised creative stickers and borders and unique collage frames.
These apps should have you on track to taking you photography skills to a whole new level. So, why not try them out the next time a photo opportunity arises.
